jPFChat: better than ever...

jPFChat is better than ever.   Instead of fighting with the Prototype javascript library, we've rewritten jPFChat to USE MooTools.  This means that jPFChat will now load flawlessly in most Joomla! websites.

It won't matter anymore whether your using Joomla 1.0.x, Joomla 1.5.x, templates with MooTools or without.   To ensure full compatibility, we've written jPFChat to sense if MooTools is already loaded.  If it is... then jPFChat won't load it again like many other components do.

The MySQL cache is another improvement.  Click the link in the header above to read more about it.

And there's several new features in the back-end also.  You can alter Flood Control settings, specify a redirect page for unregistered users trying to access the chat and control several other additional settings not included in previous versions.

New and improved... PDF Print E-mail

This is the NEW and IMPROVED jPFChat scipt and website.   As of March 22, we've migrated jpfchat.com to Joomla 1.5, and we're in the process of cleaning up the website.

For a lot of reasons, we've cleared out the registered user table.  So, if you've been here before, please re-register in order to gain access to our latest jPFChat updates.

jPFChat was originally created using the phpFreeChat script (phpfreechat.net).   The biggest issue presented by phpFreeChat is that it's written using the Prototype javascript library.   Joomla on the other hand uses and natively includes (in the 1.5.x version) the MooTools javascript library.

Unfortunately, MooTools and Prototype don't play well together (or not at all) when they are both loaded on the same web page.   So... a lot of Joomla 1.5.x users had significant issues with jPFChat on their websites. We provided some wordarounds.  But all the while, we knew that the real solution was to convert phpFreeChat to a MooTools library.

We've finally done this... and the current v2 release of jPFChat is now 100% compatible with Joomla because it no longer uses the Prototype library at all.   It now uses MooTools instead!

In addition, we've taken the base phpFreeChat script and altered it to use your Joomla website database for it's cache, rather than using the default phpFreeChat file based cache.  This adds to the chat application's speed and reliability.
